Today we day tripped into Warwick to visit the castle. We arrived nice and early at around 10.15am and picked up a ticket. £20 each!! Bloody Nora. Anyways it's our holiday so no need to worry about discount vouchers :)
We set off for the the first demonstration of lowering the porticullis.
Once into the castle we had a look around the great hall and the gaol (jail) it was horrid to think people were put into tiny holes under the ground with no light, just a grate to see through and forgotten about. Very medieval!
The day was busy with a school trip and coaches of older people not to mention the groups of Chinese! :) we worked against the grain and sat down for Henry's lunch at 11.30ish. We just caught the end of the catapult/fireball show which was on the waters edge. While feeding Henry we were joined by some very tame ducks! They came literally right up to my leg to check out any scraps I was going to throw! The primary school lot were doing enough of that so I thought id spare them Henry's biscuits! :)
We took a walk along to the water mill and learnt how they used to catch eels with it. The eels were served as a delicacy to visiting guests! Yummy (not)!
We wandered up to the bird show at which point Henry fell asleep and then on to the peacock gardens.
As there was a door into Warwick town just off to the side of the castle we took advantage and set off to explore. There are some beautiful shops and the town is so clean! As James and I hadn't eaten since breakfast at around 2ish we found a nice pub to sit outside of and devoured some steak baguettes with a glass of spritzer and a beer! Henry was wide awake and enjoying the handouts!
We returned home to play in the garden, do some swimming and play some more for an exhausted baby Henry to go down at 6.30, giving mummy and daddy a free evening (touch wood!)
